UCM means “Unintended Car Movement” and is a safety device, that acts during relevelling and preadvanced opening doors. As soon as the lift doors are open, any uncontrolled car movement has to be detected and the lift car has to be stopped according to EN 81-20 and 50.
How the unintended car movement device AMICo works?
Of which parts is the AMICo system made?
AMICo is made of two parts.
1. Part: Bidirectional safety brake with external housing
The safety brake stops the lift in case of unintended car movement.
2. Part: Detection system
The detection system is made of an electromagnetic coil that detects mechanically the car movement and activates mechanically the safety brake.
AMICo is a complete certified unit and works independently of any other electronic UCM device.
How does AMICo work?
The AMICo coil is activated at each floor. In case of an uncontrolled movement, the coil pin, will move within the steel plate, which is installed at the guide rail.
Does the car move so far, that pin touches the steel plate, the unintended car movement detection system will be activated and activate the brake to stop the lift.
Special characteristics of the AMICO system
Calculations are not required to proof, that the car stops within the required time. The detection system works directly on the brake and activates immediately and only mechanically. Therefore there is no loss of time between the detection of car movement and braking.
The existing technology will not be changed. You don’t need to replace the machine, the drive, the overspeed governor and the safety gear. AMICo is a closed system, that does not require additional electronic devices.
When can you use AMICo?
Following steps are required to check if you can use the system:
1. Headroom and pit
Depending on the existing space, you can mount AMICo on top of the car or below the car.
2. Car sling
Depending on the type of car sling, you may need an adapter plate as well as enough space.
You can use the app in the elevator store to take photos and measurements on site to find out if the system can be used.
Installation of the AMICo unintented car movement system
Installation and mounting of the brake can be done either on top of the car or below the car. By using adapter plates, the brakes can be mounted to the existing car frame. The existing safety gears will not be replaced or moved.
To connect the system electrically to the existing control system, we can help modifying the electrical cirquit.
Certification of the unintended car movement.
AMICo is fully certified according to EN81-20 and EN81-50.
